Sartell Youth Baseball Association - Coaching
Coaching
Gopher State Travel Coaching
Head coach applications were due on Saturday, March 3rd.
If multiple people would like to coach AAA at a certain age level from the top 8 evaluated at tryouts, those coaches will need to determine who is head coach. If a decision cannot be reached, the SBA board will make the head coach decision. The head coach selected will be able to select their assistant coach(es). The AA coach will be chosen the same way (the next 8 evaluated at tryouts that are not on a AAA team).
2nd Grade/Willie Mays Coaching
If you would like to be a head or assistant coach for 2nd grade or a Willie Mays team, mark “yes” on the registration form when registering your child. You will be contacted when teams are being formed.
Coaching Clinic
On April 2nd, the Sartell Varsity Baseball team will be practicing in the high school gym from 7:30-9:30 if the fields are not ready. If fields are ready, they will practice from 3:30-5:30. All people interested in coaching are invited to attend all or part of this practice. From 6-7:30, Coach Nemanich will discuss mechanics, drills, and practice plans for coaching.
Concussion Training
As per Minnesota State Law, effective September 1, 2011, all coaches need to complete Concussion Training.
Please go to http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/online_training.html
Complete the video course and print the certificate.
You may want to print several copies of the certificate; they are good for 3 years and other sports will likely require them also.
All Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must turn in a certificate showing that they have completed this training.
Background Checks
All Sartell Youth Baseball Association coaches will undergo a formal background check run by an outside agency upon their first coaching position. In subsequent years, coaches will sign a statement that there have been no offenses in the time since the formal background check. At any time, the Board has the right to request an additional formal background check for any coach.
Coaches within the association must not have been convicted of a felony crime involving:
- A minor at any time
- The use, possession, or sale of a controlled substance within the last ten years
- The use or threatened use of violence against a person within the last ten years
- A sexual offense within the last ten years
- Gambling within the last ten years
(These standards are taken from the Minnesota State High School League.)
Coaching Books
Two coaching books will be included in every coach’s bag this year. They have detailed drills and ideas about how to run practices at all levels. Coaches will need to return the two books at the end of the season.
Support for Coaches
The youth board wants all coaches to feel comfortable and be as successful as possible each season. There will be a rep from the youth board acting as a liaison throughout the season to support you with whatever you need.
